Things to Do in Shenzhen (深圳)

3 must-see attractions and 5 total things to do.

I've explored Shenzhen more times than I can count. Here are 5 things to do — from the 3 must-see highlights to the off-beat gems that make this city special.

I recommend at least 2–3 days in Shenzhen. You can comfortably cover the 3 must-sees in 2 days, then explore at leisure.

1. Window of the World

世界之窗

Landmark

A sprawling theme park with miniature replicas of 130+ world landmarks — the Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, Pyramids and more.

3-4 hoursBest: Late afternoon — stay for the light show
Tips:
  • Go on a weekday to avoid crowds
  • The evening light show on the Eiffel Tower is beautiful
  • Skip the food inside — eat at nearby OCT Bay instead

2. Huaqiangbei Electronics Market

华强北

Shopping

The world's largest electronics market — entire buildings of components, gadgets, phones, and tech you didn't know existed.

2-3 hoursBest: Afternoon (11am-6pm when stalls are open)
Tips:
  • Bargain hard — start at 50% of asking price
  • Don't buy 'brand name' goods expecting authenticity
  • Seg Electronics Market is the main building for components

3. Dapeng Fortress

大鹏所城

Landmark

A Ming Dynasty seaside fortress with stone streets, ancestral halls, and a sleepy fishing village atmosphere.

3-4 hoursBest: Morning
Tips:
  • Combine with Dapeng Beach for a full day trip
  • Eat at a local seafood restaurant outside the fortress
  • The museum inside is worth 20 minutes

4. OCT-LOFT Creative Park

华侨城创意文化园

Shopping

A former factory complex turned arts hub with galleries, design studios, cafes, and weekend markets.

2-3 hoursBest: Weekend afternoon for the market
Tips:
  • Weekend flea market is the best time to visit
  • Great cafes for a break
  • Many design shops sell unique Shenzhen-made goods

5. Lianhua Mountain Park

莲花山公园

Park

Central park with an easy summit hike offering the best panoramic view of Shenzhen's skyline.

1.5 hoursBest: Late afternoon for sunset views
Tips:
  • Free entry
  • The view of the CBD from the top is spectacular
  • Deng Xiaoping's statue marks the summit

Must-Try Local Food

In Shenzhen, the food is an adventure in itself. Here are my picks for what to eat — if you skip these, you haven't really been.

Chaoshan Beef Hotpot

潮汕牛肉火锅 · ¥80–150 per person

Paper-thin slices of fresh beef cooked in a clear broth at your table — the definitive Shenzhen dining experience.

where Haiji Le or Baxi Beef Hotpot chains

Shenzhen-style Seafood

深圳海鲜 · ¥100–200 per person

Fresh seafood from the South China Sea — steamed, grilled, or in hotpot, the quality is exceptional.

where Seafood restaurants in Dapeng or Shekou
